Tawang & Kaziranga Explorer – 7N/8D

Day wise itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati – Transfer to Kaziranga
• Arrive at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station, and begin your journey through the green heart of Assam with a drive to Kaziranga National Park, home to the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses.
• En route, enjoy views of tea gardens and rural Assam.
• On arrival, check into your jungle resort and spend the evening at leisure, or attend a local cultural dance show (optional and subject to availability).
• Overnight in Kaziranga
Day 2: Kaziranga Safari – Transfer to Dirang
• Start early with a thrilling jeep safari in one of Kaziranga’s zones to spot rhinos, elephants, deer, wild buffaloes, and birds.
• After breakfast, drive to Dirang, a beautiful valley town in Arunachal Pradesh. The journey takes you through changing landscapes as you enter the Eastern Himalayas.
• Reach Dirang by evening and check in to your hotel.
• Overnight in Dirang
Day 3: Dirang – Tawang
• After breakfast, visit the Dirang Monastery and the hot water springs known for their medicinal properties. Then begin the scenic drive to Tawang, crossing the famous Sela Pass (13,700 ft), often snow-covered and offering stunning views of the mountains.
• Stop at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to an Indian Army hero of the 1962 Sino-Indian War.
• Continue the journey through breathtaking valleys and reach Tawang by evening.
• Overnight in Tawang
Day 4: Tawang Local Sightseein
• Explore the spiritual and historical treasures of Tawang. Begin with the magnificent Tawang Monastery, the second-largest monastery in the world and the most important center of Mahayana Buddhism in India.
• Visit the Tawang War Memorial, honoring the soldiers of the 1962 war. Later, see the Giant Buddha Statue, and optionally, explore Craft Centre and Emporium for local handmade goods. You may also take a quiet walk in the local market in the evening.
• Overnight in Tawang
Day 5: Excursion to Bum La Pass & Madhuri Lake (permit required)
• Today, take a full-day excursion to Bum La Pass (subject to road and weather conditions), located near the Indo-China border at an altitude of 15,200 ft.
• En route, visit the picturesque Shonga-tser Lake (Madhuri Lake), formed after an earthquake and named after the Bollywood movie Koyla shot here. Also see Pangateng Tso Lake (PT Tso), surrounded by snow-covered peaks and pine forests.
• Return to Tawang by late afternoon.
• Overnight in Tawang
Day 6: Tawang – Bomdila
• Check out and begin the return journey to Bomdila, another scenic hill town. On the way, stop again at Sela Pass and other viewpoints.
• Once in Bomdila, visit the Bomdila Monastery, a serene place reflecting Tibetan architecture and spirituality.
• Enjoy the views of the Kameng Valley and explore the local market.
• Overnight in Bomdila
Day 7: Bomdila – Guwahati
• After breakfast, start the long but beautiful drive back to Guwahati, passing through dense forests, mountain roads, and the plains of Assam.
• Reach Guwahati by evening and check in to your hotel. If time permits, visit the Brahmaputra riverfront or enjoy local Assamese cuisine at a traditional restaurant.
• Overnight in Guwahati
Day 8: Departure from Guwahati
• After breakfast, check out and proceed to Guwahati Airport or Railway Station for your return journey, carrying unforgettable memories of the Eastern Himalayas and Assam’s wildlife.
